A Brief History

When crane machines were first introduced in New Zealand, the standard price was generally $1 per play, with smaller, lower-value toys being used in the machines. The larger machines, of which there were relatively few, were typically $2 per play.

When Kiwikrane introduced balls into New Zealand, we moved our machines to $2 per play. This allowed us to maintain a high win rate while still providing an attractive prize proposition, and the change worked very well at that time.  However, times have changed since them.

 Why We Have Different Price Points?

We believe that where suitable, giving customers a lower-cost entry point can broaden the number of people willing to play.

It is a franchises decision on whether to make a game on a standard or larger crane, $1 or $2 per play. 

Kiwikrane National Pricing Points

The below price points are currently set to ensure consistency nationally.  Any variations outside of the below need to be approved in writing on a case-by-case basis by Kiwikrane.

Nayax Surcharge – National Standard

Currently a 50c surcharge is added to Nayax transactions.  This means that the Nayax meter is set to 110c ($1.10), which then sends a single pulse to the machine which reads it as a $1.00 pulse (the mechanical coin meters are based on $1.00 pulses).

By law any surcharge charged for using a particular payment method needs to be clearly displayed.  Therefore, the Nayax readers display the 50c surcharge.  Any surcharge charged shouldn’t be more than the cost to provide this service.

No franchisee can charge more than the 50c surcharge without express written permission from Kiwikrane.

Nayax – What About Other Types of Machines?

Many franchisees also run token, vending machines, etc which are also associated with Kiwikrane.  There are a number of case situations where having no surcharge is required.  For example, a vending or token machine using Nayax only. 

In these situations the Nayax surcharge is removed – the Nayax meter is set to 100c ($1.00) and a single pulse is sent through to the machine which is then recorded as $1.00.

The price of the product vended or tokens issued is set, and the cost of the payment method is absorbed in the overall price.
