Cash Handling Tips

Cash Handling Tips

There are almost as many ways to handle cash on site as there are franchisees. The key is choosing a method that balances efficiency, security, and accuracy.

Paying Commission on Site vs. Paying Later

Counting commission on site is time-consuming and can create security risks. If a Nayax device is fitted, you may also not have enough physical cash on hand to pay commission immediately.

Transitioning sites to receiving commission on your next visit or via direct bank credit can take time, but it is often worthwhile for efficiency and safety.

When counting commission at home:

  • Use a coin counter for speed and accuracy.

  • Place both copies of the commission slip in the same bag, ready to be signed when paying commission on the next visit.

  • If paying by direct credit, send a photo of the commission slip or a screenshot of your commission tracking spreadsheet as confirmation.

If paying commission in cash, always retain the signed yellow copy of the commission slip. This is your proof of payment and has proven invaluable when site owners later query payments that were handed to on-site staff.

One Bucket vs. Individual Bags

Some franchisees collect all cash into one bucket and count it as a single batch. Others bag each machine’s takings separately. Both methods are acceptable, and each has pros and cons:

  • One bucket: Faster to process, but makes it harder to identify errors at individual machines.

  • Individual bags: More time-consuming, but helps pinpoint discrepancies and is strongly recommended if someone else is collecting machines on your behalf.

If you are experiencing mismatched collection figures, we recommend switching to individual machine bagging.

Banking

Be aware that different banks have different daily cash limits and some branches place restrictions on handling large amounts of cash.

Always remain vigilant when transporting or banking cash. Plan your banking routine carefully and avoid making yourself a target.
