Prize Payout Formulae
We all agree players need to win, but we also agree we need to make a profit. We have determined that everyone is happy when approx 30% of the machine income is returned to the player (prize payout). You need to constantly be thinking about payout percentage when visiting a machine. The first thing you look at is obviously the revenue, or turnover - then the next question is - What was the payout?
There are two questions to consider:
-
If a prize is a certain price and my machine is $2 per play, what frequency of win do I want? The answer is:
FREQUENCY OF WIN = PRIZE COST DIVIDED BY 0.6
For example, a $9 ball divided by 0.6 = 15 - so 1 win in 15 or 1 win every $30. Now test that - $9/$30 = 0.3 or 30%
-
I get to a machine and I know the income and the number of prizes won, and the price per prize. What is the percentage payout?
(NO OF PRIZES WON X COST PER PRIZE) DIVIDED BY INCOME = PERCENTAGE PAYOUT X 100%
The number above is a decimal e.g., 0.32876 - when you multiply it by 100% and round it, you have 33%
For example, $213 dollars with 7 balls won = (7 X $9)/$213 = $63/$213 = 0.2957 = 30%
