Compliance Test & Tag

It's an absolute requirement being a Kiwikrane Franchisee that all our sited/operated machines are yearly compliance tested or "Test Tagged". This is not only important because of our contract with national sites like Countdown, but also because of the hostile environment our machines operate in and that as the supplier of the machines (you) are legally obligated to ensure they are safe in accordance with AS/NZ 3760:2010. If something happens and the machine wasn't compliance tested, just think about the value of stock a Countdown holds and the implications if your non-compliance tested machine caused a fire!

Testing Required

Our machines are tested annually and under the standard, the following basic tests are applicable to each appliance:

  • Visual inspection
  • Insulation resistance
  • Earth continuity
  • Polarity
  • Earth leakage

In most cases, plugs, cords, and machine earthing are the main concerns (all metal parts, internally and externally, must be earthed and pass the test). A compliance tag must be filled out, signed, and affixed to the back of the machine and to the cord. Tagging and testing is an annual (at least) requirement. If the machine needs repairs that might compromise the electrical safety of the machine, it must be tested again before it is operated.

Who Does the Testing and Tagging

A “competent person” who can safely and correctly carry out the inspections and tests described in the relevant Australian Standard, AS/NZS 3760:2010. The person carrying out inspections and tests must know what to look at, what to look for, and what to do.

If you have had approved training and have a statement of attainment or certificate that you can produce on request by the Franchisor, you could, with the use of a PAT (portable appliance tester), carry out tests on every crane every 12 months.

Record Keeping

Keep a complete record of every test, including:

  • A test tag attached to each item indicating date, item, person performing the test, and status (pass/fail) of test, along with the retest date
  • An asset register (asset ID, description, and serial number)
  • A historical record of all test items (including faulty items and repair action) and test results plus date of test and date of each retest
