Not a common problem but has occurred. These are the possible reasons and solutions

It may be that the function "catching in the air" is turned on via dipswitch settings - and the drop button is being pushed as it descends

Check that your dipswitch settings are correct

Is the cord tangled on the spool - perhaps halfway down

Check that the up down microswitch is below, not above the washer
